The Textron Defense Systems Sensor Fuzed Weapon (SFW) is a smart air-to-ground area weapon designed to defeat moving and fixed targets on land and at sea. With several proven features to prevent hazardous unexploded ordnance, the SFW is the only weapon of its kind in the U.S. Air Force inventory.
The SFW delivers:
"Here there is not one recorded instant of the SFW causing a single civilian casualty… I think it says a lot for the effects of the civilian population and the humanitarian impact by this weapon system on a community is negligible."
- Bob Gravett , EOD Specialist
"In perhaps the greatest technological advance, the submunitions in the CBU-105 . . . are capable of independently sensing and attacking specific targets like armored vehicles. Thus, these weapons are designed to address the multiple problems associated with cluster munitions: the inaccuracy of both the munition and the submunition, and the large number of persistent duds . . . the trend is encouraging and should be continued."
- Human Rights Watch, 2004 World Report
"It makes no sense at all for the international community to prohibit systems like the Sensor Fuzed Weapon, because they pose minimal danger to non-combatants and any ban would force warfighters to shift to more powerful munitions that cause much greater carnage in war zones."
- Loren B. Thompson, Ph.D.
"We felt very comfortable that the CBU-105 having a zero dud rate would be a factor in forces moving through that area. So, it was an easy call for us to make to drop CBU-105's…"
