Textron Systems Awarded $23M Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) For Common Smart Submunition

- – Textron Systems announced today that it has been awarded a $23 million contract by the U.S. Army through the Defense Ordnance Technology Consortium (DOTC) for the Armaments and Engineering Technology Center (AETC) of the Armament, Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, to develop, integrate, and demonstrate the technologies for the next generation sensor fuzed submunition. The Common Smart Submunition (CSS) Other Transaction Agreement is a 43-month Defense Technology Objective (DTO) program that will address Joint Service needs for low cost smart submunitions.

Jim Stamboni, senior vice president, said, "The goal of the CSS program is to develop an affordable, high performance, multi-mission submunition that can be used effectively in a broad spectrum of Army, Air Force, and Navy weapons and applications. The submunition will be capable of being dispensed from missiles, rockets, artillery, mortars, and unmanned vehicles and will leave a clean battlefield free from unexploded ordnance. Textron Systems is a world leader in developing and producing smart submunitions for both air and ground based weapons. We are pleased the Army has selected us to develop this important next generation submunition technology."
