Mass. – June 15, 2005 - – Textron Systems
announced today that it has been awarded a $23 million
contract by the U.S. Army through the Defense Ordnance
Technology Consortium (DOTC) for the Armaments and Engineering
Technology Center (AETC) of the Armament, Research,
Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), Picatinny
Arsenal, New Jersey, to develop, integrate, and demonstrate
the technologies for the next generation sensor fuzed
submunition. The Common Smart Submunition (CSS) Other
Transaction Agreement is a 43-month Defense Technology
Objective (DTO) program that will address Joint Service
needs for low cost smart submunitions.
Jim Stamboni, senior vice president,
said, "The goal of the CSS program is to develop an
affordable, high performance, multi-mission submunition
that can be used effectively in a broad spectrum of
Army, Air Force, and Navy weapons and applications.
The submunition will be capable of being dispensed from
missiles, rockets, artillery, mortars, and unmanned
vehicles and will leave a clean battlefield free from
unexploded ordnance. Textron Systems is a world leader
in developing and producing smart submunitions for both
air and ground based weapons. We are pleased the Army
has selected us to develop this important next generation
submunition technology."
